It’s that time of year again – The Oscars. It’s a time for celebrating some of the greatest achievements in film from the previous year, from the best stories to the best actors and actresses. These were the big winners from 2018:
- Best picture – The Shape of Water. This touching story from director Guillermo del Toro focuses on the unique friendship between a cleaning lady and an amphibious creature that lives in a lab. It stars Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer and Michael Shannon in leading roles. Guillermo del Toro also won Best Director for the film.
- Best Actor in a Leading Role – Gary Oldman in The Darkest Hour. A film about WWII, Oldman triumphs in his starring role as Winston Churchill. It was directed by Joe Wright and written by Anthony McCarten.
- Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Sam Rockwell in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Rockwell plays Officer Dixon, a corrupt policeman who turns out to have some redeeming features.
